Today we had discussion, and talked about the film "Rape." For me the film started out pretty funny, but as it went on I got uncomfortable and it was very creepy. I think one of the creepiest parts was that she didn't speak English and she obviously was helpless. I didn't know she was illegally in London but it made sense because she really didn't try to call for help, and that was because she was unable to actually do so. Overall for some reason I was able to stay interested in this film more than most of the others we have viewed. I think it has to do with following someone and that something actually happened.

Thinking about my film project, I'm still not quite sure what idea I am going to go with. I am going to keep thinking about it and hopefully one sticks out to me.

I often find that films with human subjects are better able to maintain my attention - but, as we discussed in class, this can be very subjective (no pun intended), some people are just as fascinated by nature, for example. For me it's almost like songs with lyrics Vs. instrumental music: as I became more knowledgeable about music I came to appreciate instrumental pieces more. Maybe the same will be true about experimental film - an acquired taste? I hope this class helps in that process.

PS. I still can't "understand"/enjoy jazz :( Someday...
